Can I Trust the Bible?
Main idea: Students will consider whether—and how much—the content of the New Testament was changed along the way before it became the Bible we have today and wrestle with how the Bible’s origin story impacts their trust.
As Christians, we see the Holy Spirit at work in the human authors who captured God’s Word and communicated it to God’s people in specific places and times. And God still speaks to us through the Bible today. When we trust and allow it to teach, correct, and equip us, Scripture shapes us into people who live in relationship with—and try to live like—Jesus Christ.
Understanding how the Bible came to be helps students to better read and learn from it. Throughout this session you’ll guide students to explore and discuss the Bible’s origins, consider findings from noted biblical scholars, and reflect on how they might trust that God is at work, speaking to them through its wisdom and stories today.
