Does God Approve of Violence?
Main idea: Students will consider Bible stories and passages that bring into question God’s view of violence, and compare them with examples set by Jesus as God in human form.
Throughout the Bible we read about the incredible love, grace, pain, mistakes, and yes, even blood, of real life. Its stories invite us to look closely and ask questions about what they can teach us. Thankfully, in Jesus we have a teacher whose life serves as an example we can follow of God’s loving, peace-seeking character.
Throughout this session you’ll guide students to consider the witness of the whole Bible as you tackle the question, “Does God approve of violence?” You’ll look at stories and passages that bring into question God’s view of violence, and then wrestle with these passages in light of what we find in Scripture about God’s love and character.
