Can Living God's Love Lead Us to Faithful Resistance?
Main idea: Students will explore what it means to follow God in times when that may mean questioning human rules. Through Acts 8, they'll see Philip's faithful resistance in welcoming the Ethiopian eunuch, then test that lens with other passages to understand the difference between resistance and rebellion, and discern when resistance can be faithful, loving, and wise.
As members of society, we're taught to respect authority, follow rules, and honor traditions. However, throughout Scripture and history, God's people have often had to choose between obeying human laws and obeying God. When religious or civil laws contradict God's justice and love, resistance might not just be acceptable—it may even be faithful. Throughout this session, you'll guide students to recognize when rules become unjust, explore biblical examples of faithful resistance, and consider opportunities to demonstrate love for God and love for neighbor in their daily lives.
